George R. Schoedinger, III
Born in Columbus, Ohio on 01-31-37, he lives in St. Louis, Missouri with his wife, Lesley. He graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School on 06-08-62 and after a one year internship served a four year residency in general and orthopedic surgery at Barnes Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his internship and residency on 06-30-67 following which time he entered private practice in St. Louis, Missouri. Shortly after his entry into private practice he began to develop a sub-specialty interest in traumatic and reconstructive adult spinal surgery; the latter occurring many years before the advent of sub-specialty fellowship training. In 1969, he and a fellow resident created the St. Louis County Orthopedic Group which as the years passed became the first sub-specialty orthopedic group in the St. Louis region. By amalgamation with other orthopedic groups, he and his associates formed Signature Health Services on 01-01-02. The Signature entity, a member of the Ashville Forum, currently numbers
107 physicians and surgeons practicing primarily in the specialties of orthopedic surgery and obstetrics/gynecology. He is the founder of the Galen Insurance Company. Inc. and its chief operating officer; the only physician-owned entity of its type in the State of Missouri. He was the initiator of the Signature Health Care Foundation, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is "To utilize physician leadership to improve the quality, efficiency and affordability of healthcare in the St. Louis area and nationally". He holds patents on orthopedic devices and has given and published papers dealing with the care of the injured intervetebral lumbar disc.
